Happy Valentine's Day. I heard a wonderful phrase on Forum this morning. The president of some manufacturing trade group said, "285 million of the greatest consumers this world has ever seen." Wow. That's us folks.

Kalen has expanded his vocabulary to include arbitration and indubitably. We tried the word indemnification, but that was a bit messy in the middle. Someone mentioned that small children may be the best toys yet.

This morning Kalen asked, "Why?" for the first time. He then proceeded to answer his own question I think, although I can't even remember what it was about (something about breakfast), I was just struck by his asking it!

Kalen was going to head over to school for an hour or two today, for a Valentine's pajama party at preschool. Curly made 30 Valentine's cards for Kalen to give to the other kids.

This weeks favorite books are, Harold and the Purple Crayon, the WWF Kids book from Aunt Melanie and Uncle Ted, and a book about the Rats of NIMH.

This weekend we had our first cohousing workday over at Jacob and Kim's place. We got a bunch of work done. Then on Sunday, Curly, Christina and I worked all day on our place and did many things - replaced a broken window, rearranged the kitchen, cleaned up, removed more window bars, and more. Christina wins the prize for best house warming gift so far - of a vacuum cleaner. Curly was pretty ecstatic about it. Kalen went out to fly a kite with Robert and Megan, but alas no wind at the Berkeley Marina, and so Kalen talks about how they ate bagels mostly.

Coming up I'll be 31. Tim and Tina are coming up this weekend, as Jodi is in town. Kalen is going on a surprise trip to Missouri to see his great-grandman (travelling with grandparent Nelson's).
